Many years ago I worked for a staffing agency as a OR Tech in the bay area & I was assigned to one of the State Hospitals to work in surgery a suite doing GYN cases that day.
The first case of the day scheduled was an abortion. I scrubed into the case not knowing what to expect since I had never participated in a abortion prior to this. The case was done via a D&C proceedure using a suction curet to dismemeber the fetus and suction the remains out of the female patients body. The case went well and the patient was soon wheeled out of the OR. I was left to clean up the OR and prepare for the next case.
While emptying the suction canister I noticed a small perfectly formed hand with all 5 fingers approx a little larger than a half inch in size. I was so taken back by the sight as it made this barbaric proceedure real to me. Prior to this experience, abortion was only a word and the porcedure nothing more than a normal D&C. After seeing that small hand in the suction canister I realized that a small perfectly formed hand had been brutally ripped off the arm of a living fetus! My life was changed at that moment of realization and I have never participated in a abortion since and feel that human life is precious and who are we to be irresponsible and flippant about the destruction of it for convience sake.
I am thankful that my mother chose life for me and not death. I am the parent of two beautiful children and one grandchild who are marvelously and miraculously created by a loving God.
