I worked in a nursing home (in another town)where they were adding morphine sulfate to the breathing treatments of the elderly. I was shocked because ms is a respiratory depresant. Now I'm only an LPN but watching as they used this method, the clients would "pass" within 2 weeks of beginning this treatment method. I was told it was a coiencidence and ordered to give the treatments as ordered. I may have been wrong about the treatments but I quit before I checked into it better. In my opinion these treatments were hastening the death of these elderly people and not making their last days more comfortable.
