I am a physician and was medical director of a federally funded clinic (which I enjoyed very much). I was asked to either resign or change my moral principles and prescribe birth control pills. At that time I mentioned that Pope John Paul II held the same position I did and I was told that it wouldn't be long before we had a new pope. I was shocked and I said I would not prescribe birth control pills. I was then asked to resign. This went on my record and made it difficult for me to find another good place to work. Several years later I have now found a place to practice medicine where I am not so morally challenged. My friends have endured similar discrimination.
