Bristol, Tenn.—August 17, 2023—Christian Medical & Dental Associations (CMDA), which is the nation’s largest faith-based professional healthcare association, is celebrating a significant court victory to protect the health and safety of women and girls against chemical abortion drugs. In Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. U.S. Food and Drug Administration, a unanimous panel for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit ruled Wednesday that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) must restore critical safeguards for chemical abortion drugs and disallow their shipment by mail.

The court ordered that its decision will not go into effect for seven days to allow the Biden administration time to seek review from appellate courts.

A federal mandate issued in 2016 required doctors to perform gender transition procedures on any patient, including a child, even if the doctor believed the procedure would be harmful. That rule was struck down in court after it was challenged by nine states, several religious organizations, and an association of over 19,000 healthcare professionals.
